Stuart Ryan – Ottawa Centre

Stuart Ryan has been a resident of Ottawa Centre for the last 39 years. For almost 33 years he worked as a union representative of a local of the Canadian Union of Public Employees at Carleton University. He was a delegate to the Ottawa and District Labour Council for his Unifor local until his retirement in 2015.

He has continued his activism since his retirement in such popular organizations as Ottawa Fight for $15 and Fairness, the Ottawa Committee for Pension Security, Solidarity Ottawa and the Ottawa Health Coalition, where he has served as Co-Chair. He continues his long-time interest in international solidarity work with countries in Latin America and the Philippines. He also performs in a community choir and maintains his karate training.

He is the proud father of two sons who are struggling to find work in an economy which is increasingly relying on precarious employment to generates its profits. He wants them to have a future with full-time employment and pension security.
