Stop Ford’s Election Reforms

Expand working people’s power, not corporate power!

The Communist Party of Canada (Ontario) condemns the reforms to Ontario’s elections unveiled by the Ford government last week. The changes in Bill 254, the so-called “Protecting Elections Act”, will only serve to increase the political power of corporations and the wealthiest capitalists in the province. Doug Ford hopes the changes will get his government re-elected to another term in order to continue to put the burden of a deep economic crisis on the backs of Ontario’s working class.

Stop evictions & support encampments – Housing for all!

The coronavirus pandemic has caused a series of crises in Ontario. One of them is the dramatic impact it has had in the housing sector. Homeless people have been exposed to the virus in overcrowded shelters. Encampments have grown exponentially as a result. Cities across the province have already or are threatening to bulldoze the encampments. The unemployment rate in Ontario has doubled since the pandemic began. After CERB finished and the emergency freeze on evictions was lifted in August, thousands of tenants were not able to keep up with their rent and have been evicted or are in the process of being evicted. These evictions are disproportionately low-income and racialized tenants.

Government inaction amounts to continuing genocide against Indigenous peoples

The Ontario Committee of the Communist Party of Canada demands immediate action by the Trudeau and Ford governments to uphold the treaty rights and human rights of Indigneous peoples. Continued inaction will lead to the further theft of Indigenous land, further suffering and displacement and write another shameful chapter in Canada’s ongoing genocidal history.
