The Ontario Convention of the Communist Party of Canada condemns the recent arrests of land defenders on Wet’suwet’en territories. We stand in full solidarity in the fight for the rights of land and water defenders whether it be on Wet’suwet’en territory, Haudenosaunee territory at the 1492 Land Back reclamation or anywhere around the world where Indigenous peoples are struggling against capitalist dispossession.
The Ontario Committee of the Communist Party of Canada demands immediate action by the Trudeau and Ford governments to uphold the treaty rights and human rights of Indigneous peoples. Continued inaction will lead to the further theft of Indigenous land, further suffering and displacement and write another shameful chapter in Canada’s ongoing genocidal history.

The Communist Party of Canada (Ontario) supports the Haudenosaunee right to hunt at Short Hills Provincial Park, organized by the Haudenosaunee Wildlife and Habitat Authority and authorized by the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council. The hunts are protected under treaty rights dating back to the founding of European settlement in Niagara and must be respected by all. (more…)
